Tata NEN Award for Hottest Startups in India

There is great news for all the startup companies in India. TATA NEN is giving India’s first ever people’s choice awards for startup companies. There are various categories for companies and the requirement is that it should be 5 or fewer years old, based in India and a standalone company. There is an expert panel who gives their expert rating but as the name says, it is people’s choice awards, so the winners will be selected by the people through votes.

The voting process is simple. You can register on their site and for the companies you like. You are allowed to vote only once for a company. Each nomination will be reviewed and rated by two expert judges. The number of public votes and experts’ ratings together determines the 30 shortlisted startups. The 30 shortlisted startups will campaign for votes in the final round. Finally, the five companies from the shortlist with the most final-round votes become the 5 TATA NEN Hottest Startups 2008 Winners.

So if have recently started an innovative website or a new venture and you want a good exposure and a little help from VC and Angel investors, then this is the best platform. Register on their website at http://www.hotteststartups.in and nominate your company. Once it is reviewed and approved by the panel of experts, you can ask your friends to vote for you and you never know, your company may be among the 5 hottest startup winners for 2008.

The 5 Winners will get publicity, business development support and access to funding. The support will be provided by IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, Microsoft, TATA and NEN. Winners will get introduced to angels or VCs; and/or connected to industry experts; and get access to specially designed business training, mentoring, educational programs and incubation support. So what else you need for a startup? Nominate your company today and all the best!!

Yes, it seems that TATA NEN has changed the nomination process a bit. I had nominated my website kidsandbibs for the same and after 6 days , I got their reply and they have written that the nomination procedure is changed so that all the startups get online visibility asap and can start with the voting process, while their backend process continues like reviewing the application and then making sure that it is complete in all aspects and the expert rating etc. Well these days public voting is in vogue.. so it will be interesting to watch the contest and see who the winners are !!!
