Komli Ad Network Review

Komli Ad Network

In one of my earlier posts, I had mentioned about trying out Komli and DGM, the indian ad networks. It has been been more than 3 weeks now, however I am not satisfied with the way Komli has been performing on my site.

I did research a lot and from most of the online review, I have read about Komli, they all say the same thing which is “Stay Away from Komli” . It is true that I did not dedicate my whole ad inventory to Komli, I was just checking out, but I would also like to mention that I did try putting their ads on the main pages, and the most popular pages. However the performance was very poor. Forget about clicks, but as they say, they pay based on CPM based impressions, but the CPM cost is also pathetic. Imagine getting 29 INR for 46K impressions.

I saw the comment made by their CEO Mr. Amar Goel on one of the blogs, and also other employees commenting on other posts. They always justified saying that it is based on traffic, ad placement and the target audience. Yes we all know that. Being webmasters for so long and having tried out various ad networks, all of us are aware that traffic, placement and total impressions do play a major role. But how will they justify the CPM cost they are paying to publishers. I feel, maybe they charge very less to their advertisers, as they boast of having good advertisers with them. However, I am very happy with the other ad networks and the way they are paying to the publishers. So till I see some good reviews from other webmasters, it is better to stay away from Komli. Well I don’t mind selling my ad inventory to them if they are interested. Infact I have got many calls from them regarding ad inventory purchase for some of my women based sites, but they never materialized. I am sure cost must be one major factor for that as well.

I recently got an email also to become their premium publisher and they requested me to remove my other ads and give 100% ad inventory to Komli ads. However seeing the dismal performance, I decided to better stay away as I wasn’t too sure.

Have a look at my Komli Stats. I had tried the ads on just a few pages on my sites as I was reluctant to put it everywhere, till I was happy with the performance.

Komli Ad Performace

Stay away from Komli

So far, I am happy with DGM, will be soon writing a review for DGM.

I used it only for a few weeks and was not happy with their rates. Basically they operate on the spill-over traffic and hence not much is earned. Also, in the wake of the ongoing economic slowdown one can expect worse performance from such programs.

    Hi Asha,

Thanks for your honest review. We are extremely focused on keeping our publishers happy and want to incorporate your feedback to improve our service and payouts.

As I see it, you’ve raised a couple of issues here:
    1. Payouts on our performance network being low, and
    2. Your getting a number of calls from us to buy inventory without any deals

On #1, it is important to clarify that our performance network traffics CPC and CPA campaigns, but your earnings are reported on an eCPM basis. If your eCPM is low, that is a reflection of a low ctr or conversion rate. My account management team has a couple of ideas on improving your payouts and will be getting in touch with you today to action the same.

On #2, you must have received calls from our publisher team to inquire about rates in response to inquiries from agencies and advertisers about advertising on women-related content. These inquiries are routed through us because you, agencies and advertisers rarely have the wherewithal to get in touch with each other directly. Think of us as a broker. If you haven’t gotten any business yet, that could be because of two reasons:
    1. Your rates are too high,
    2. The agency/client canned the campaign

If your rates are realistic, trust me, you’ll be getting business from us soon.

    Thanks,

    akshay

    Hi Akshay,

First of all, it was good to see your comments about our concern as publishers on Komli. Believe me, we all publishers are also eagerly waiting to work with good indian ad networks, however the payout needs to be improved.

I do agree about the low CTR but accepting that fact also, getting 50 paise for a click is too much.

However I do like Komli for one thing. Your customer care and support from your team is really good. You guys are approachable and are quick to reply, be it on email, phone or just on blog post.

About realistic rates, I know my rates have been always realistic. And I sincerely look fwd to working with Komli and getting some good business. After all I am also keen to work with Indian ad networks as for some of my sites, I am targeting just the Indian market.

    Regards,
    Asha

I am using Komli since 2 years. My site has alexa rank less than 40000 and i make few thousand every month by komli. I must say that now a days Komli is only acting like a Cost per action network and there is no difference between Komli and other affiliate network like DGM India. I hardly make 10 rupees for hundred clicks but yes cost per action make around rs 40 - 50 per action.

Also Komli is only good with Popups and popunders. Even my 50000 banner impressions per day also make less money than 1000 popup impression.

I think recession is also a factor in low payouts now a days. Last year with komli I used to make around 10000 per month but this year it hardly reaches 3000.

Final Note: Komli can be a good choice if you want to use popup ads and pray everyday to get at least 1 conversion coz simple ad clicks will pay you ‘Thenga’.

I was just going through your reviews on Komli, DGM and other ad networks. I am amazed that blogging reuires so much effort and people are working so hard for only 10000 rupees. Review on komli that they are paying 29 Rupees for 40k plus visitors. How can it be true. In my opinion begging would be better than blogging if such kind of pathetic income is generated out of komli, adwinks or any other ad network. Believe me if a beggar approaches 400 persons a day he is able to make around 100 rupees. In website business which sounds so classy you are making 29 rupees, stop being classy start doing something else.

Raja, you are right. Before you really plan to start doing the classy website business, you must check out which ad network you would like to use and do a proper research. But I am sure Komli will do something good for the Indian webmasters as with such low payouts, I am sure, no one would be using their ad-network as there are other avenues as well.

And I am sure, the classy business will remain classy :)

I am part of management team at eLitmus. In our business, the guys who get benefitted from eLitmus never write on public fora and the ones who dont (because of their mistakes), make the most noise. I can understand Komli could be going through same. Hence this note.

My team when they started off, read similar comments, so gave the least lucrative property to Komli ads. Needless to say it reinforced what ever was talked on the internet.

In my montly review, I decided to give it a try. In a new part of our site, we gave them what we thought as premium position, the top banner. It did not work. I had thought as much but went with top banner in deference of wishes of my web expert team. Then we moved it down to the bottom. Things started improving. This is because the ads delivered on our site are mostly youth and nothing to do with content of our site. So when a visitor comes in, he is not interested in one of those ads. But once s/he finishes reading the article / posts, s/he sees a refreshingly different and fun ad. And lo … they click.

I agree with every one the click money is bad. But what has happened with period of time, they have started showing more relevant feedback ads. These make a lot of money for us. All said there are improvements, but I am sure all early stage companies will require time to catch up with some one who has been in business for long. Incidentally today our Komli revenues out did google adsense (typically they are 30-40%) .

In terms of statistics, at current run rate we are looking at giving them 45,000 traffic in our forum with around Rs 2000.

Mr. Marwaha, it is good to see someone talking good about Komli. We are not saying that Komli is bad and everyone in this industry understands about the CTR and ad placements and how it can affect your earnings. What is discussed here is money they give you for a click or for a million impression.

I also don’t agree to that fact that people who have benefited do not write. I write good as well as bad, whatever is my personal experience. If I am happy with a certain tool/product, I will surely make it a point to write about it.
