Image names important for SEO

Being an owner of a few baby websites, I have done some R and D and learnt a few techniques and tips for optimizing websites for search engines. There are many factors in SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

Along with all other factors, one main important factor is image names used in a website. If you notice, this site Being Asha dot Com was launched on 22nd of September and I did not get a chance to submit the site to all the search engines. However, Google already indexed it and to my surprise on September 27th and 28th, I saw some traffic on my blog from MSN Live Image Search.

People were searching for the terms like “India twenty” and ” INDIAN TEAM AT TWENTY 20 WORLD CUP” and the image I have used was ranked number 5 and number 1 respectively. The image, I have used in my post on India team winning the world cricket, was named as ‘india-twenty-20-world-cup.jpg’.

So next time, when you use an image in your website and your blog, try to give a proper name to the images, instead of giving them some names like 41ab.jpg or 78new.jpg, give them significant names. It’s good to name images exactly what they are so that Googlebot, Yahoo! slurp, MSNbot, all those robots, know exactly what the image is of ,so that the index is created properly and the search engines can direct traffic to your site accordingly.

So to summarize, giving proper image names helps in driving traffic to your site!
